Hand made Macrame and Knitting
Having made knitted products since I was a child, starting with a dolly bobbin and moving onto needles, I have now learned macrame using cotton and jute and the basic spinning of wool. I have ideas for wall hangings and will incorporate some of my stash of raw wool from Zwartbles sheep, that I have been gradually processing by hand, into some of the designs using needle felting.
I began making a macrame fly screen/curtain for my back door in my 1960s house; I had two operations for breast cancer in 2021 under lockdown, and I came up with the post surgery project and got to work. I needed to keep moving in order to heal; I made the first macrame curtain from a pattern book. My work was admired by neighbours and friends and I began to take commissions. Selling to other people meant that I had to start designing the curtains as well as making them. It got to the point where it became apparent that I should market my work so I built a website and advertised my work. I added knitted goods and plant hangers, lampshades, bags, Christmas - Yule decorations, and curtain ties to my list of goods for sale as commissions came in. I am continuing to have medical treatment and I'm still here, three different cancers and counting.
I have an extensive range of products available for sale from my studio. I design and make items to order as well as making items for sale online. If you would like something custom-made then please use the contact form and let me know what you would like me to make for you in more detail. Keep in mind whether you might want wooden rings, a particular colour, the length of item, the dimensions in the case of the plant hangers, the thickness of the cord, and any beads. I'm happy to work with you to get the finished product that you will love. Please take a look at my commissions page for more information.
My Redbubble Shop - Photography and Illustration
I studied photography at degree level after doing A Levels and a foundation course in art and design. I worked in print and publishing for most of my career and added graphic design to my skillset - adapt to survive and all that; motherhood then cancer made me adapt my career path. For the first time, since 2015 when I running the Rooftop Arts Centre in Corby, I am selling my photographs again.
I started by adding illustrations to my shop, that I began making at the Tuesday morning art group in the village hall, and I have since dug out folders of old negatives and bought a negative/slide scanner so I can add old photographs too. I have been supported and inspired by the art group to make more illustrations and carry on with my photography and graphic design work.
I make an effort to write stories about the illustrations I make and photographs I take. I like to know the story behind a piece of work so I make sure to add my own.
